Florida's New Alimony Law 2023

If you are planning to file for divorce check on how the new law will affect you.

Florida’s new alimony law will be applicable to any final judgment entered on or after July 1, 2022. The new law eliminates permanent (lifetime) alimony and replaces it with bridge-the-gap, rehabilitative, and durational forms of alimony. Spouses who have been married for less than three years would not be eligible for alimony. Those who have been married 20 years or longer would be eligible to receive payments for up to 75% of the term of the marriage. Rehabilitative alimony is limited to 5 years. Courts may order alimony to be paid in a lump sum or as periodic payments1.

If you are planning a dissolution of marriage and there are minor children involved it is most important to seek out a Family Law attorney or Mediator with several years experience in handling cases involving alimony and child support.  Give us a call for a free consultation.                (954) 946 4774, or email allan@divorcenters.com
